The Tourism Times
Inside The Numbers:
Reflecting on the numbers for the first quarter of 2014, tourism numbers are continuing to climb and while hotel occupancy is up nearly 3%, the real indicator of recent success is the growth in ADR, up an amazing 9% in the first quarter to $82.54. We would like to thank all those involved in the tourism industry especially our TDC who have volunteered their time and passion to improving tourism for Seminole County – all of the hard work is making a major difference and it truly is a total team effort.
In 2013 travel to Central Florida infused more than $31.7 billion into the economy due to spending by visitors and employed more than 367,000 people. Providing our local and state governments with $7 billion in tax revenues annually; tourism is the most important industry in Florida and we have some exciting opportunities ahead that will continue to grow and strengthen our industry.
This is a perfect time for us to develop a new program that will be launched this summer, the Seminole County CVB Tourism Ambassador Program. We need your help and your volunteer spirit! We are working on developing a campaign that helps engage our community to showcase what a great tourism destination we have here in Seminole County. Anything is possible when we can strategically combine our efforts to bring new visitors into Seminole County. If you are passionate about Tourism and would like to help promote our County and become an ambassador for tourism, please contact one of the CVB staff. We will be rolling out some social media campaigns over the next three months that our Tourism Ambassadors will help us develop and deploy throughout the community.

Nice to Meet You
March heralded the first media familiarization (FAM) trip of 2014, and it was a great success for the CVB. Specifically targeted to Meetings and Association journalists, including Collinson’s Collaborate, Rejuvenate and Connect publications, plus Convention South, the two-day media education tour was packed with non-stop activities, tours and site visits. The CVB would like to stress that none of this would have been possible without the efforts of our many partners. The Sanford Herald joined us to give residents a peek inside the CVB’s work – the result: a glowing front-page story that reflects well on all of us. The next mission, targeting Tour Operators, is planned for June with additional FAMs scheduled for fall. If you want to be involved in the FAM trip, please let us know.
New Website Launched
Welcome To The Wild Side: The new Seminole County tourism website is now live at VisitSeminole.com. Built specifically to enhance the experience of all users and to stay ahead of the competition, it has been designed as a responsive website, which means that VisitSeminole.com automatically understands whether you are visiting from a desktop, tablet or smartphone and adjusts to present the most high resolution and optimized format for you. Unlike previous tourism websites (and some of the outdated ones that some of the other destinations are still using), we no longer need to develop a separate website for mobile users. The result is a large cost savings and a more consistent look and feel. We will be adding some interactive map features and tools to the website over the next two months that will provide our visitors with a fun way to easily access points of interest throughout the county. Our website is a great tool and a great resource for our partners to utilize and share. We always welcome our partner’s feedback and input for improvements as we are adding new features and updates daily.
Got a great deal or incentive to boost your business? Post your deals to the Wild Card form on the new website and we'll make sure that Seminole County visitors receive information and promotions on your hotel, attractions or tourism related business. It is free and easy, and we encourage all of our partners to take advantage of this opportunity.
